How to Clean Faux Wood Blinds
Some people feel nothing compares to natural wood blinds, but we would like to beg to differ here at Custom Window Decor of Jupiter. Hunter Douglas faux wood blinds look just like the real deal but can also withstand high humidity, intense UV rays, and all kinds of wear and tear. They're a practical alternative for kitchens and bathrooms and come with another convenient benefit: they are actually quite easy to clean.
Gentle Dusting Techniques
Regular dusting will keep your faux wood blinds looking their best. Swipe across each slat using a soft, dry cloth or a feather duster to remove accumulated dust. Just tilt the blinds in one direction and dust along the grain, then do the same thing in the opposite direction. If you can't get into the corners, try a soft toothbrush, but be careful to not apply too much pressure to the blinds.
Cleaning Faux Wood Blinds With a Vacuum Cleaner
When handing dusting isn’t enough, grab your vacuum cleaner and its brush attachment. Open the blinds up and gently run the attachment down each slat. Always work from the top to bottom when dusting or vacuuming blinds, and remember to dust both sides of the blinds.
My Hunter Douglas Faux Wood Blinds Have Stains. Now What?
Even though Hunter Douglas EverWood® Faux Wood Blinds resist moisture, it's best not to clean them with soaking wet sponges or cloths. When spots or stains appear, spot-cleaning works best. Add a drop or two of mild detergent to a container of warm water and dip in a soft cloth. Wring it out and gently wipe the stained or heavily soiled areas.
If you're unsure, test the solution on an inconspicuous area of the blinds first. Once the stain is removed, buff it dry with a clean cloth to prevent water spots.
Cleaning stains on faux wood blinds in kitchens can be trickier because of greasy splatters and sticky residues. To tackle those, combine equal parts water and white vinegar. Dip in a cloth and carefully wipe away the mess. Vinegar is a natural degreaser that can break down residues without damaging the faux wood. If you are worried about the solution damaging your blinds, you can always test clean a small, inconspicuous section first. Finally, use a dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture.
